Draught Marks next to Skirting Boards. Draught marks or filtration marks are often found on the carpet around the edges of a room, commonly found in older houses, they can also appear in more modern property. The lighter the carpet the more they stand out. How Are Draught Marks Formed They form when warmed air in the room rises and is replaced by cooler air drawn through gaps around the skirting board. Older properties generally have wider gaps which is why draught marks are more common. The air passes through the edge of the carpet. As it does so air bourne particles become attached to the carpet fibres which act like a filter cleaning the air and over time this forms a dark edge to the carpet. The composition of draught marks depends on the nature of the contaminants in the air. This can include a mix of particles of dust, soot, pollen etc. which forms an oily dark residue that can prove difficult and time consuming to remove. However cleaning a carpet without removing the draught marks leaves an unsatisfactory appearance a bit like using a table cloth with a grubby rim. Prevention To combat the appearance of draught marks it is recommended that the carpet is given a thorough vacuum once a week with particular attention given to the edges which should be cleaned using the crevice cleaning tool attachment. Our Process Once the carpet has been cleaned we inspect the edge for any residual draught marks. Because the composition of soiling differs between properties we use a variety of spotters and cleaners to treat them. The marks are removed a small section at a time and then the carpet thoroughly rinsed using a small hand tool. It is this attention to detail that ensure that our cleans stand out from the crowd. Carpets are revived giving your room a fresh clean well groomed appearance rather than a cleaned carpet with a dirty edge.

Cleaned this white sofa the other day. Used Fusion Clean a great very safe Ph neutral cleaner with a little microsplitter on areas with heavier soiling. It's great when you can see the soiling flush out like this. I use a Mighty Dry when cleaning furnishings as it's fantastic at rinsing the surface of the fabric without pushing water into the interior.

Carpet cleaning machines are hardly sexy but looks aren't everything. The performance of this machine is phenomenal which is why when used with the right technique we are able to leave carpets needing such little drying time.
